The Canteen
If you live in Bristol and you haven't been to the Canteen, then you better have a bloody good excuse. Because lurking in the formerly crusty but now super-trendy Stokes Croft, looking like a squatted office block, is one of the best venues that Bristol has to offer. Go here for a meal that ticks all the boxes: tasty, healthy, purse-friendly (prices start at around £5.50) and you get free soup! There's also live music every night, which is nearly always quite good. Don't go there for the service - but who cares when you can get a bottle of wine for a tenner? Great for people watching, The Canteen is the place to go for a low-cost night out that doesn't feel cheap.
