Bristol Ice Rink

In these asbo–ridden times, ice skating seems so beautifully innocent. Even if the world has moved fowards, a little bit of that Disney magic still dwells in the John Nike Leisure Centre (which Ali G didn't save in his film). Smile benevolently at youths who like nothing better than spinning in circles and getting chilly fingers. It's like some sort of ancient courtship ritual; the bigger boys skate really fast in their non–regulation black skates while the girls let their hair blow prettily in the wind as they mouth along to Girls Aloud. The walls are painted with rainbows, Children's Ward–style, and the bar pours a fine Breezer. Great fun, irony–free.
