The Matthew
The Matthew was the ship in which John Cabot (oh he of the tower) left Bristol to sail to America in 1497. He was aiming to discover a faster version of the spice route, took a wrong turn somewhere along the way and ended up in what would later become the U.S. of A. Funnily enough, the wooden ship hasn't survived the last 500-odd years, but by the power of historical records and a bit of guesswork, it's been rebuilt to its former glory (they think) right here in Brizzle. Going to the docks and staring at it is free but if you want to climb aboard it needs to be done by arrangement and at cost.
