Eat Nottingham

The best place to get a hangover-killing meal? When your head's pounding, get along to Brown Bettys (17b St James's Street, 0115 941 3464), order a standard breakfast, and you'll soon be back on your feet. Or happily fast asleep with the mellow taste of bacon and egg on your breath. Either way is a vast improvement. The best place to go to get a Sunday roast is Moog (Newdigate Street, 0115 841 3830). It's always fresh, always tasty and you won't slump into the afternoon feeling as though you've downed a ton of wallpaper paste. The best place to go if you're a veggie is Cast (Wellington Circus, 0115 941 9419). They're always willing to adapt the menu and as they cook all dishes to order you won't be stuck with goat's cheese and walnut flan with a beetroot and gorgonzola sauce.

Top five cheap eats

BRB Stone – 2-for-1 pizza. Genius.
Sir Charles Napier – Sunday lunch with all the trimmings for £4.75.
Chico – Two course meal for £14.95 and all the wine you can drink.
Bar de Nada – 5pm–7pm, the price is based on when you arrive. Hurry!

Top five places for a posh meal
Saltwater – Spectacular views.
Piccolinos – Smart, uncomplicated Italian food.
Tarn Thai – Plush, serene and offers the best Thai food in the city.
Iberico Tapas – More-ish food served under Moorish ceilings.
Hart's – Award-winning restaurant, and with bloody good reason, too.
